Staircase to the Moon

March - November

From March to November witness a breathtaking natural phenomenon known as Staircase to the Moon. It is caused by the rising of the full moon reflecting off the exposed mudflats at extremely low tide – creating a beautiful optical illusion of stairs reaching to the moon. Staircase to the Moon is a natural attraction and its visibility varies in strength depending on weather, sunset, moonrise and the tide. The best local vantage points are Cossack Lookout or Hearson Cove, near Karratha.

Brew and the Moo

November 2018

In its third year Brew and the Moo will again deliver some of the best beef in the Pilbara and a range of beers from top Australian and international producers, as well as live music and entertainment, all set on Hampton Oval at Dampier’s idyllic beachside.

Tantalising gourmet food stalls will serve a smörgåsbord of mouthwatering beef dishes while pop up bars will showcase boutique brews from WA, interstate and international breweries. Roebourne Races

10 June, 23 June, 14 July, 28 July 2018

Punters have been watching the red dust fly at the Nor West Jockey Club’s Roebourne Races for 150 years. Every year trainers and jockeys from WA’s best-known stables saddle up for some of the state’s most exciting track action north of Ascot. The four-race round kicks off with an Open Day in early June and finishes with the Roebourne Cup Day in late July.

Cossack Art Awards

Each July the historic town of Cossack comes alive with the work of Hundreds of talented artists from across Australia for the country’s most unique regional art prize. The Cossack Art Award attracts thousands of visitors each year, its vibrant entries dress the walls of Cossack’s heritage listed Bond Store, Port and Telegraph Buildings, creating a captivating community and cultural canvas. The popular Cossack Family Day signals the start of the three-week public Exhibition period, public programme and Artist in Residence activities.

Each year thousands of people turn out over two days to celebrate life In the City of Karratha. The FeNaCING Festival’s unique name is Derived from the commodities on which our community was built Iron Ore-Fe,Salt-NaCI and Natural Gas – NG. The action-packed program Includes live entertainment, performances and demonstrations featuring Local talent: art and craft pavilion; food stalls; retail opportunities and a Sideshow alley. The Red Earth Arts Festival is one of the largest of its kind. The Festival runs around the end of September and attracts more than 10,000 guests.
