Tropical cyclones are a seasonal occurrence in the region. Wind can exceed 280km/h causing damage and turning loose items into potentially deadly missiles. The season runs from November to April with cyclones most prevalent in February and March.
The City of Karratha enforces a restricted fire season year round. Fire permits are required at all times and are available by contacting Ranger Services on 9186 8555.
