Airport

Karratha Airport is Western Australia's busiest regional airport, providing an air link to the Pilbara region with multiple daily services from Perth, twice-weekly flights to Broome, and weekly interstate services to some Australian capital cities.

Aquatic Centres

There are two aquatic centres located in the Shire of Roebourne.

Karratha Aquatic Centre is situated on Sharpe Avenue, Karratha and is open every day apart from Christmas Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and closes at 12pm on ANZAC Day. There are a variety of activities and program available. For more information contact 9186 8527.

Roebourne Aquatic Centre is situated on Sholl Street, Roebourne and is open from September to May each year. From June to September it is closed for maintenance. For more information please contact 9182 1101.

Boat Ramps

Public boat ramps are located at Dampier, Karratha Back Beach, John's Creek at Point Samson, Cossack and Wickham. For more information contact 9186 8555.

Caravans or Moveable Dwellings

Those wishing to occupy a caravan or other moveable dwelling for longer than three days require a permit from the Shire of Roebourne. It allows people to live in the dwelling for up to 12 months. For more information contact Environmental Health Services on 9186 8555.

Gymnasium

The Karratha Entertainment Centre (KEC) is located at Searipple Road, Karratha. They have a range of programs and facilities available including a gymnasium, squash court, hall hire, crèche, meeting room hire and fitness classes.

Halls

The Shire of Roebourne has several halls for hire. These include the Millars Well and Dampier Pavilions, a large community hall with a kiosk/kitchen; and the Roebourne Community Hall, a large facility with a kiosk/kitchen and bar area.

Libraries

The Shire of Roebourne has four libraries:

The Karratha Community Library is situated at the Pilbara TAFE and is a joint use library serving the public as well as the staff and students of the College.

All libraries are serviced by the State Library of Western Australia which provides regular exchanges of new books.

All Shire residents may use the libraries free of charge and can use their library card to borrow from any of the libraries. All libraries offer the use of word processors, internet access and photocopiers. The libraries also conduct story-telling sessions for pre-school children. Please enquire at your local library for times and days.

Museum

The Local History Office can provide more information on the Cossack Courthouse Museum and the Roebourne Old Gaol Museum. Please contact 9185 2553.

Off Road Vehicles

Under the Control of Vehicles (Off Road Areas) Act 1978 it is an offence to drive or ride an off-road vehicle within the Shire of Roebourne, unless it is used on private land with the owner's consent.

Off road vehicles include trail bikes, two and four wheeled motor bikes, two and four wheel drive vehicles and go-carts.

Parks & Gerdens

The Shire of Roebourne residents, tourists and community groups benefit from some of the highest quality sports fields, parks and neighbourhood playgrounds within the North West.

Our enthusiastic team of gardening staff monitors and maintains these areas and other Shire facilities.

Council invites the use of its facilities at Dodd Court and Cattrall Park (Karratha), Andover Park (Roebourne), Lyons Park (Wickham) and Millers Close (Point Samson) for functions including parties, weddings, concerts and picnics.
